Asghar Ali Shah Stadium

Asghar Ali Shah Stadium is a cricket ground in Karachi, Pakistan. It was constructed in the memory of Late. Justice Asghar Ali Shah, former Judge in Sindh High Court, father of a renowned orthopaedic surgeon, a politician and a member of Pakistan Cricket Board Dr. Syed Mohammad Ali Shah. Dr. Shah is also the manager of this stadium.

Ground history

The stadium was constructed in 1993 in order to facilitate the club cricket in Karachi. It was the second cricket stadium in Pakistan (first being Gaddafi Stadium) to have the facility of flood lights to conduct the game at night.

Usage

The stadium has been used for many international matches of smaller levels such as Under 17 Asia Cricket Cup, Under 19 Cricket Tournaments and also women’s cricket tournaments have been held here. Mostly, this stadium hosts first class and domestic cricket matches. Dr.M.A.Shah Night Twenty20 Trophy is also held here every year in the month of Ramadan in which cricket teams representing cricket clubs from around the country play each other.[1]

Liaquatabad

Liaquatabad Town (Urdu: لیا قت آباد ٹاؤن‎) is a town in the central part of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan named after Liaquat Ali Khan, the first Prime Minister of Pakistan. It is bordered by the towns of North Nazimabad to the north, Gulberg Town and Gulshan to the east, Jamshed to the south across the Lyari River, and SITE Town to the west across the Orangi Nala stream.

Landhi

Landhi Town ( Sindhi: لانڊی ٽائون Urdu: لانڈھی ٹاؤن ‎) is a large industrial town in the eastern part of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It is bordered by the Faisal Cantonment and Shah Faisal Town to the north across the Malir River, Bin Qasim Town to the south and east, and Korangi Town to the west. The population of Landhi Town was estimated to be over 660,000 at the 1998 census, of which 99% are Muslim. Sindhis and Pashtuns constitute an overwhelming majority of the population, followed by Muhajirs and Baloch.

History

The federal government introduced local government reforms in the year 2000, which eliminated the previous third tier of government (administrative divisions) and raised the fourth tier (districts) to become the new third tier. The effect in Karachi was the dissolution of the former Karachi Division and the merger of its five districts to form a new Karachi City-District with eighteen autonomous constituent towns including Landhi Town.

Note:The neighbourhood of Korangi should not be confused with Korangi Town which lies to the southwest of the neighbourhood.
The town of Landhi is a middle-class areas. The literacy rate in Landhi Town is more than 60%. Landhi Town has great educational instituations like National University(FAST), Mono-Technical College, Science and Commerce College, Maryam Girls College. Baber Market at Landhi 3 is the biggest Market of Town. Town Municipal Administration Office is at Landhi 5. This includes the neighbourhoods of Dawood Chowrangi, Quaidabad, Malir, Moinabad, Muslimabad and Muzafarabad which form a cluster in the east of the town. The neighbourhood of Sharafi Goth in the north of the town along the Malir River is the least densely populated neighbourhood. The town was initially built for Mohajirs who came to Pakistan from India. It was generally a planned area but due to in-efficiency of local governments and corruption at grass root and upper levels has made this town a Katchi abadi. There are several forced take over of government parks and lands. Also enchrochments of Government land in front of houses and commercial areas has completely de-shaped the Landhi town.

Trade and industry

Landhi Town includes one of the four largest industrial estates in Karachi and will be the site of a new 250-acre (1.0 km2) industrial estate for small and medium businesses. The industrial estate benefits from the proximity of Port Qasim and Jinnah International Airport as well as rail and road links to the rest of Pakistan.
